Floral Sun Bread

Happy Solstice everyone! Our family is celebrating today with a floral sun bread breakfast (see the recipe below) and a nighttime bonfire complete with Stockbrot (stick bread) and sausages.

  1. Combine 1.25 cups of warm milk, 3 oz of melted butter, and a package of active dry yeast in a medium sized bowl. Combine.

  2. Add 1/2 cup of brown sugar, a dash of salt, and the insides of one vanilla bean to the mix. Combine again.

  3. Add 2.5 cups of flour and knead for 10 minutes.

  4. Cover your bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise for a minimum of 1 hour.

  5. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

  6. Shape your dough into suns and use a kitchen brush to add egg wash. Finally, place edible flowers atop each bread. I used violets.

  7. Bake for 10 minutes.
