Marzipan Hedgehog

Updated: Dec 31, 2020

This is a craft I remember vividly from my childhood in Germany. Marzipan hedgehogs are not only a delicious treat, but also an incredibly easy craft to do - even with small children.

What you need:

  • Baking Marzipan Extra Fine (I got my Marzipan from the Worldmarket)

  • Slivered Almonds

  • Raisins

Directions:

  1. Use your hands to shape the marzipan in the shape of a hedgehog. You can use your fingers to create indents where the eye sockets would be and even create a tiny open mouth. The design of the hedgehog is really up to the crafter.

  2. Use raisins to fill in the eye sockets. I added a small piece of almond to each eye in order to simulate the pupil. Attach another raisin where the nose of the hedgehog would be.

  3. Use slivered almonds to create the hedgehog's spines. Add slivered almonds all across the hedgehog's back.

  4. Enjoy!

BONUS CRAFT: Easy Leaf Lanterns

Materials:

  • An empty mason jar

  • Dried or colorful leaves

  • Modge Podge and foam brush

  • Elmer's School Glue

Directions:

  1. Using a foam brush, coat the empty mason jar in Modge Podge.

  2. Attach leaves by adding a drop of school glue to each leaf.

  3. Coat the leaves in Modge Podge and dry for at least 30 minutes before using.
