I spent the morning making gift tags using watercolors as well as a black felt pen. It was so relaxing to add all of the details to the tags!
Materials:
Watercolor Set (I used this brand)
Watercolor Pad (I used this brand)
Large Brush
Sharp scissors
Sharp pencil
Black felt pen (I used this brand)
Hole puncher
Ribbon
Directions:
Begin by prepping the background. The technique you will be using is called "wet-on-wet painting". Dip a large painting brush into clean tap water and use this brush to moisten your watercolor paper with water. Once moist, choose different colors and loosely apply them to the paper using the same big brush. Do not spend too much time adding detail to the page. The colors will merge beautifully on their own - simply by applying them to the wet paper.
Let your background dry for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Once dry, use a circular stencil (I used a water glass as well as a piece of thin cardboard to create a stencil) to draw circles onto your background.
Use a black felt pen to add plenty of detail to your circles. Your detail does not have to be perfect. Little imperfections will look beautiful. Let your heart guide you in your designs. There really isn't a "right" way to do this. The black lines, zig zags, stars, flowers, or dots will all look beautiful atop the colored paper. See image below for inspiration.
Cut out your circles using sharp scissors. Using a hole puncher, add a small hole to each of the gift tags. Use ribbons to attach the tags to presents.
