Bird House Window Transparency

Updated: May 29, 2021

I created this little (super easy) bird house to go along with our origami love birds (see prior post). It took me less than 30 minutes to make!

What you need:

  • 8 popsicle or crafting sticks

  • 2 wooden coffee stirrers

  • Wood glue (I used TiteBond)

  • Glue stick

  • Scissors

  • Kite paper (I used white, brown, dark brown, light orange, and red)

  • A piece of string or yarn

Directions:

  • Using wood glue, combine 4 popsicle sticks to create a square.

  • Add two more popsicle sticks to create a roof.

  • Let dry for a minimum of 15 minutes.

  • Then, using scissors, cut out pieces of white kite paper to cover both shapes in white.

  • Cut out a ring that fits within the triangle forming the roof. You can use a compass to do this or cut it out by hand (I cut mine out by hand).

  • Using light brown and dark brown kite paper, cut out little seeds and attach them to the ring using a glue stick.

  • Using red kite paper, cut out red berries and also attach them to the ring using a glue stick.

  • Attach the ring to the triangle forming the roof. Then, add a piece of string or yarn to make the ring "hang" from the top of the roof.

  • Using white kite paper, cut out pieces of "snow" and attach them to the roof.

  • Using the wood glue, add one more popsicle stick to the bottom half of your bird house.

  • Cut out a narrow strip of light orange kite paper and attach it to the bottom popsicle stick.

  • Again, use light and dark brown kite paper to cut out seeds. Attach them to the bottom layer of light orange kite paper.

  • Repeat in the center of the bird house (here, I decided to cut out uneven "piles" of grains).

  • Add detail by adding some more seeds, grains, and red berries.

  • Using the wood glue, attach one more popsicle stick to the bottom of the bird house to create a "stand".

  • Finally, attach two wooden coffee stirrers to the popsicle stick that is forming the center of the bird house (so that your little birdies have somewhere to sit on).
